How do you know if you are running too lean or too rich? I know GM made it difficult to access the mixture screws on 79-81 corvettes so how would you alter the a/f ratio? I have an old corvette book and it says to remove the hardened steel cap that is over the mixture screw. is this the only way? Or can you alter it by different jets and metering rods?
I'm thinking that you have a Q-jet ? ...or was it a throttle body system ???
....metering rod size would be a way to adjust it - IF you can get to them.
*Perfect ratio is always 14:1 air to gas ratio....
If it's running 'rich' then either adjust the flow rate or increase the air intake (and vice-versa).....but keep in mind that if you raise the fuel flow or raise the air flow - it'll mean better performance at the cost of fuel economy..... Sorry, you can't have both without a computer. :( :chevy
