Default Oil Pump Relief Spring

The relief spring (Canton 11-250 40 -65 psi) installed in a standard pressure/volume oil pump. My question is the psi range, would this mean, that the spring installed at stock length, would produce around 40 psi. And if shimmed it could produce 65 psi.

I doubt it. I don't believe that manufacturers recommend shimming the spring.

Basically no. It is not just the spring that sets pressures it is all the clearances in your engine combined with the pumps ability to pump pressures, so all they are really saying is that if all is good your pressures "could" be somewhere in that range!

Default oil PSI

yes it will make a difference

if you do not have it, go buy Dave Vizard's book on the Small block
"How to Build Max Performance Chevy Small Blocks on a Budget"

He has a really good write up in there about preparing an oil pump and also expounds a bit on its effect on ignition performance.

and as bad as I hate the "Zone", they carry his books... around $20.00

Best Regards, Jim
