A 56" length of 3/4" PVC pipe. Found a techtip by gary dion (cluchdust) in the tech forum for bleeding your brakes by using the pipe to press the pedal. I can stand outside the car, pump the brakes slowly with the pipe, then "bow" it and put the open end over the door striker and it holds the pedal down while I walk around and crack the bleeder. Marvelous!
So today I'm trying to figure out how to turn the engine over myself while watching for a spark. I can reach through the gap between the door and the windshield and turn the key and see the engine, but I can't hold the darned clutch in to engage the ignition cut out on the clutch. Then I remembered the trusty PVC pipe. Worked like a charm.
I have a starter switch on a long cord that I use on my mustang to bump the starter. It jumps across the solenoid and by pressing the button the solenoid is energized and the motor is turned over. The clutch has to be in for normal starting but when you bypass the ignition by clipping onto the solenoid this saftey device is overrode. I also have the same ford external solenoid on my vet so the same starter works. I don't know if you can just jump to the starter solenoid or not but this external starter is great for setting valves.
