Putting the heads back on my LT-1 tomorrow with the help of my father. Heads are fully rebuilt and have a milled surface. The block in the car is original, and un touched. I scraped everything off the block deck for the rebuild. I used a basic scraper and its smooth to the touch.
I have fel pro 1094 head gaskets for the re assembly. One side is metal and the other side has a rubber/plastic coating.
My Question
Does the metal side of the gasket face the head or the block? Based on the pattern left on the block deck, I would guess that the rubber side faces the block, but I prefer the experts opinion versus my guess.
Never used a 1094 gasket, used the 1205's. These have the silicone seal towards the intake manifold and use copper coat on the head side. Line the gaskets up with the head, that'll tell you which side goes up or down. Like i said, i like to use copper coat with the side that takes the most to seal.

Thank you gents!

I've used the 1094 before and it has a rubberized coating on both sides. I don't know what the OP is using then.
As for the 1094 FelPro is was able to get hold of customer service somehow and there is no right side up. Just use a sealer to install and i used a spray sealer from NAPA.
