Mains have been align honed by .005" What is the proper procedure to "adjust" for this loss in deck height? Can the main bearings be mix matched to negate this loss?
The NORMAL procedure to compensate for loss of deck height when a block is align-bored is to either a) use a slightly thicker head gasket if necessary or b) have your piston tops milled as needed. Of course, any balancing must be done AFTER this takes place.
Typically, if only .005" of deck height is lost that wouldn't be enough to have to resort to either of those measures...
There is normally excess clearance at the deck. That is, the piston tops are normally well below the deck, unless your motor has been decked to establish zero deck height. .005" is pretty insignificant. Assemble the motor and check your deck height.
