Default ?? for a new top end

My friend has a 1972 corvette base motor thats .30 over >> he thinks it has lt1 heads ** automatic trans.
I have a lt1 but its now a 383 and i have looked in every book on 1972 corvettes and to figure out what he has
now*** will be street used
he wants a top end **aluminum heads maybe 70cc ** roller cam **maybe what ever carb thinking 600 to 650
edelbrock has a full kit everthing to bolt on and start [ gaskets** head bolts ]
now hes called edelbrock thy told him to get a none roler / and onle 65cc heads?if he went higher would need a taller coverter [ i can't find out what base one is ] any ideas or help let me know

are you asking how to determine what heads are currently on the car? Compare the casting number to this list

Jim your post is very scattered. Kind of a lot of random information and no real direct question?

Anyway... the one question I see "If he went higher would need a taller converter" comes right after Edelbrock recommending 65cc heads. Head size has NOTHING to due with torque converter requirements. The only thing that affects that is the specifications of the cam, which you did not mention.

The reason they recommended the 65cc heads is to raise the compression compared to the higher volume heads.

alot of people on here swear by air flow research heads.whats your budget ?roller cams make good power ,but cost about $800 more.consider a comp extreme hydraulic cam ,the ex268h is a good street cam.if your friend still has a Q-jet ,consider rebuilding it .a elderbrock rpm performer is a good intake to consider.check competition products for prices.
