Default Do you think this would be helpful? Users? Mods?

If you've been around here for some time, you've seen lots of threads go through here with questions like:

- what should I look for when buying a C3, C2 or C1?
- how can I tell if it was originally a big block, or a fuelie, or big brake car?
- where can I find information on numbers and about restoring?
- etc.

Would it be helpful to add an additional section for both the C1&C2 Section and for the C3 Section, as follows?
---------
C3 Corvettes This area is for owners and fans of the long running third generation vettes.

C3s for Sale/Wanted ONLY non-commercial members and Supporting Dealers may post here.

C3 Parts for Sale/Wanted ONLY non-commercial members may post here.

C3 Information Look in here for answers to common questions about C3s.

C1 & C2 Corvettes This area is for owners and fans of anything from a solid-axle to a 1967 427.

C1s & C2s for Sale/Wanted ONLY non-commercial members and Supporting Dealers may post here.

C1 & C2 Parts ONLY non-commercial members may post here.

C2 Information Look in here for answers to common questions about C2s.

C1 Information Look in here for answers to common questions about C1s.
---------
We could build a library of threads with various opinions, sources, etc. submitted......then have the results vetted (no pun intended) by some of our resident experts (JohnZ, Duke, etc. step forward).....errors and junk eliminated......thread locked and sticky status applied......then we move on to the next topic.

I'm imagining a "library" of 10, 20, maybe 30 sealed threads that, if necessary, could be opened and edited by the Mods now and then.

Then, when the inevitable questions pop up, our first course of action would be.......see "xxxxxxx Thread" then come back and ask questions that have not been fully answered and we'll be glad to help out.

Well?

I totally agree with you. It would be nice to have archives for each generation. Let's wait and see what the boss has to say

I agree a FAQ would be cool... but I think they should stick it up in the tabs on top of the page. The forum listing are getting kinda cluttered and the page is already long enough.

I guess the idea of keeping it among the other sections (at least at the beginning) is that it would encourage more people to contribute until a reasonable knowledge-base has been assembled. A separate link at the top or side of the page would likely be ignored by most regulars around here (I think  ). We need their input to build the information.

I know us folks that have been on the forum for awhile have heard these questions over and over, but keep in mind these type of questions are from relative newbies. As such it's kinda cool really for them to receive your extensive knowledge and staying on one topic forum also helps them to see how fun it is here. Going to another topic on the forum COULD isolate them from us. Dunno, I'm rambeling I suppose, but I remember when I was a new guy here and had all the usual and probably boreing questions. I was amazed at the support I received. I pass on the knowledge I learned here as often as I can and I hope the newer fellas will do the same. Doesn't bother me a bit. Just my $.02

MasterDave,

It's certainly not a bother to answer these questions. My motivation here is the concern I have about the "consistency" of responses. Some people asking given questions will receive more or less replies from more or less knowledgeable people than someone else.

My suggested approach would simply provide a "solid" base of information from which we could then build a "customized" answer for each person's questions.....knowing that they have the all-important basics from those in the know.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I think it's a great Idea for all the reasons listed. It's not bothersome to answer the questions over and over again but it would simply be a more efficient way of getting answers to your problems.

I kinda like the idea and if anyone wants to give input they can. I think it will just make it easier for everyone. I've got so many sites saved on my computer about vettes I think I'm gonna have to buy a dedicated computer just for these files. :D

I agree. I think one of the first things I asked was "is there an FAQ?"

mike69, super  video in your sig!

i dunno about this one guys. i know i get kind of tired of seeing the same question asked by different newbies. it's to the point now where i won't answer many of them if they're the same question that was on last week, and last month, and the month before that... so in that respect, i say yes. then again, i agree with what was said earier about people not joining in. maybe having a tab at the top of the page with something like: 'NEW OWNER FAQ' and then being able to do a key word search for specific titles. then if people want to visit previous strings, fine. if they don't, they can still throw them out to the whole forum.
