The solution with my '75 was a battery kill switch to turn off any time the car was going to sit for any length of time. I could have eventually found and repaired all the shorts and / or drains, but I had been concerned with the possibility of an electrical fire with this old of a car. I kept wondering what I would do if, while driving down the road I suddenly noticed smoke start coming out of the dash. I bought a keyed battery disconnect. I mounted it behind the drivers seat into the battery compartment. Now if the car is going to sit for any time, I reach behind the seat and turn the key. It is also an added anti-theft measure. 3 birds with 1 stone - 1) immediately kill all power in case of electrical fire - 2) stops the battery from going dead while sitting inactive - 3) makes it harder to steal

My 80 did the same . I put my multimeter in seriies with the battery positive (Set the meter to read AMPS) and found I was pulling 10 Amps with nothing turned on. Started pulling fuses till the cuuent went to zero.
It seems the burg alarm was the problem. Chop,chop,snip,snip, no more dead battery.
