...to the tune of all new internals. Basically nothing except the original case was salvageable. All of the clutches (including the reverse clutch) were burnt out and the sunshell was cracked. The "shift kit" that the previous owner told me was in it was actually a complete lack of accumulator springs. The guy that rebuilt it for me just told it was "rode hard." Between that and the fact that I could just about see daylight between the cylinder wall and one of the pistons when I got the heads off of the motor I hate to think what my diff looks like. Ah well... Just kind of ticked because when I bought the car three years ago I was told it had a rebuilt transmission.
Kinda funny how that works..
One man's rebuild is another bubba's junkyard swap.
Unless I see a receipt, I don't believe anything a seller tells me that I can't verify otherwise.

Ive owned my Vette just shy of 2 years (and have been gone about 15 months of that time, deployed overseas and such)...
Every time I think I have a problem sorted out, I uncover 3 more behind it. Major stuff, too. For instance, replacing my transmission output seal turned into a tranny rebuild. This weeks project, replacing the rear spring, is now going to require me to pull down the differential and reseal it because its leaking far worse than I imagined. I can only imagine what Im going to find wrong inside the punkin.
The guy I bought the car from had the engine rebuilt (even had the receipt) but I really wonder why he chose to repaint the car and rebuild the engine and ignore everything else.
It is tough getting used anything , and these cars it can be dangerous as people who have owned prior all seam to be related to or friends with Bubba.
I was lucky I had a c-4 hated it ,, wanted a c-3 1980 ,, and read all i could here until i found one with new everything not rebuilt but a new crate motor , tranny , new diff , control arms breaks you name it is was replaced with new.
The only thing I compromised on was color I wanted black got darkk blue metallic ,, everyone else likes the color I am ok with it lol.
But I know this , once we sit behind wheel , turn the key and drive off we forget what it cost us and soak up the joy of having it.

Because a repainted car is easier to sell than one that runs/drives well.
Ezobens - I am down in Troy. It is where 55 and 70 cross, a little ways east of St. Louis. Troy is about the same size and it is just a little bit hick too. Makes it entertaining, right? Love it here.
Scottd - I know what you mean. This whole saga started when my vacuum line between the carb and distributor broke. Motor idled at about 1500 rpm lol. Replaced vacuum line and then the cylinder head let go. So I decided to pull the motor and just rebuild it. That was a year and a half ago...
Definitely true though. When it's about 77 degrees out and I have the t tops off, heading down a two lane at about 65 and listening to my super 40's is just awesome. Makes the headaches worth it.
