I am trying to replace my windshield wiper switch and I am having the most trouble getting the dash out. Does anyone know how to get it off? If so, I would really appreciate it.
On a side note, I am putting in power locks and the ground wire is currently in the door... Is it supposed to be that way? Or should I extend it and ground it to the chassis directly? Also, where is the power lock switch on a 78?
Haven't done it myself yet, but I've heard (or read) here on the forum that you can get to it by removing the speedo/tach assembly and reaching in through there to remove the wiper switch.
As for the power lock switch, I'm a little confused on this one myself. Mine is about an inch or so below and an inch or so to the rear of the door handle. I've heard of other forum members whose switches are below and in front of the door handle. Your guess is as good as mine on that one.
BTW, I just noticed on this post that your in AK. If you ever get up north around Fairbanks, look me up. Hard to find forum members up here.
Thanks for the advice, that woul be REAL nice compared to removing the whole dash. I will certainly look you up. Right now I am trying to arrange for Noggles, Torch, Vip3r, myself, and now you to get together to do something. We all live in various parts of AK and should have some fun this summer before Noggz and I leave forever.
Thanks for the info on the lock switch also, that is where it looked like the hole in the door panel wasn, but the hole in the door frame looked a little small. Guess I will make it work.
Don't work too hard,
Berserker
P.S. I will let you know tomorrow whether that worked or not.
Okay, got it done. You were correct, it was easy once I got the speedometer out. I just reached in with a ratchet and pulled it right out. Easy as pie.
