Default Battery, for an 80 vet.

When I got my 80 vet it came with a batery with top and side posts and the size is 9 in long x 6 1/2 wide 8 in high. The battery compartment is 11 x 10 x 9 H . Does some one know if that is the proper size ? It's time to replace the battery.

Thanks Joe Floyd

Any parts store should be able to look up the correct battery for you.

The correct side terminal battery is Group Size 74. The proper top post battery is Group Size 24. The location of the terminals are the only difference.

Current replacements may have a different group size. Find the one in a retailer's application chart and get the one with the most reserve capacity and cold cranking amps. There's only a small number of companies that make auto batteries and they make the vast majority of labels. The differences are generally to meet a particular price point. That being said, if you read (and believe) the testing done by Consumer Reports, they tend to like Costco's Kirkland, Walmart Maxx, Sears Diehard, NAPA Gold and Interstate Megatron brands over others.
