Hey guys,I took the top off my rebuilt steering box as there is a lot of play in the steering, when I turn the steering wheel the rack block teeth of which the worm gear goes through appears to be the cause of all the play as it appears to be rocking when I turn the steering wheel from side to side, any ideas or solutions on this one? Thanks.
Thanks for replying 69small block, but Iv rebuilt everything else on the car
and this surely has to be something that I am over looking as they are such a basic system,oh and I live in Ireland and shipping on the weight of a steering box is quite expensive.
Okay so i took the top off the unit again as the lash adjuster was having no affect, and unfortunately the repair I had tried after Bubba cracking the housing side cover/bushing assembly was not going to work for me,
So now I need a replacement lash adjuster cover does anybody here maybe have this part for sale? I would be very grateful thanks.
Hi, you may want to try Bairs corvette, they are in Linesville Pennsylvania. You can e-mail them at sales@bairs.com
I sent them my steering box and they did a great job of rebuilding it and at a great price too. But, they also sell a lot of parts. just go on line and type in bairs Corvette. Good luck.
Have you checked the flexible steering coupling? When I first got my car the wheel could turn almost a full quarter in each direction, the steering coupling was almost non-existent.
