After having searched the archives for this answer I am posting to see if anybody knows where I might find a "real" walnut-neneer shift console insert for my 73. I have tried all the regular companies, but all they offer is a "non-wood" solution.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks,
Matt
--- I am sorry - I guess this should have gone under parts.
Dr Rebuild lists them in his catalog #27, part # 4017133 for $69.50. For orders only call 800-866-9362.
For questions call 203-366-1332.
IMHO you can't beat the quality of his parts.
Thanks for the info., but they do not have any in stock, nor will they ever have any other that the replacment non-wood sticker thing. They could not tell me who would have any either.
Why not buy a non-wood insert and then go to a local hardwood lumber supply and buy some veneer of your choice. Veneer is very thin and easy to work with. Simply glue your new veneer over the non-wood using a proper adhesive and then when it's dry, take a utility knife and trim the edges. If you want that high gloss look, you can pick up one of many products that will work. Just be sure to apply in a dust free environment. Veneers come in hundreds of types. Birdseye Maple, Burled Walnut and a whole host of exotic stuff from Africa, Madagascar and every other place you can imagine.......
I bought a 1974 Jensen Interceptor in 1980. It needed some work and part of that was the interior. Being a British car, it had lots of wood on the dash and gauges. I went to a hardwood specialty store and bought seven sheets of English Burled Walnut veneer and refinished the interior pieces myself. It came out...."better than new" and it wasn't difficult. Find yourself some really nice exotic wood veneer and you'll have a helluva 'Vette.
