looking to upgrade to a digital 1/2 inch torque wrench.any pros or cons anyone can provide.right now i'm looking at the eastwood and the brownline/jegs models.thanks
I bought one of the Brownline ones at Xmas. I can say I am VERY happy with it !
If they are all like this I would highly recommend it.
Compared it to my friends' Snap-On one that had just been sent for recalibration and they were identical !
They just had a write up on torque wrenched this month in Car Craft I think. It was one of the car mags I read a few weeks ago. The interesting thing is they test several of the main brands and the Cheap Harbor Frieght out performed most on the manual wrenches. But they also tested an adapter that u add to your rachet that gives you a digital read out. I noticed Eastwood sells it for twice the price of HF. I thought it was an interesting article. i havent tried a digital one yet.
I have several Snap On click type, they work well.
+1. In addition to my Snap-On fixed head 1/2" and 3/8", I also have a 3/8" drive Mac click type wrench that comes in real handy for tight spots (i.e., working on imports).
I recently pick up one of those digital adapters (I think I got it off Amazon for like $60) that I use to spot check the calibration of my torque wrenches between sending them out to be tested/re-calibrated (which I do every 1-2 years). The digtal tester works pretty well. If I'm not mistaken, it's testing range is between 20ft/lbs and around 140ft/lbs. In addition to being used as a tester, you can use the adapter as a torque wrench with a 1/2" rachet or breaker bar.
