Default Hood vs Scoop

OK need the professionals help. I'm looking to update my 75 standard small block hood with LT1 or L88 style. I had in mind Ecklers full hood but the price is too high not to mention the shipping cost. The Ecklers hood is also way to high 4"+ and it does not seem to blend with the lines of the car. I found a local standard hood and was thinking to get a long L88 or LT1 scoop, but can't seem to find any one with the long scoop. What do you think? Is there anyone with a complete hood or scoop that is less the 4-3" high? Any help or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you look at this hood? How high do you think an L88 hood is, not less than 3"?

I did look at this hood but it is 4+ inches high. It's a monster through the windshield. Was look for something 3" or less

That Ecklers hood is the standard height L88 hood. Anything less would have to be custom made. It is around 3" high, not 4". A 4" tall scoop would look noticeably taller. (Check out Ajrothm's hood.)

I'm running the l88 highrise, even though it sticks up into view, it really doesn't kill that much visibility.

Why not get the cowl induction piece and have it put on, or you put it on your hood. You can get whatever height you want. And the price is fair.

LT1 hood is not offered in a "long hood" for cars without wiper doors. I've looked. I would love to have one for my '76.

Your correct, I have not seen the
LT1 hood only the L88 for middle and late model. The L88 hood is to high at 4"+ with a stock small block. Thinking of using foam and molding my own LT1 scoop as a project. You think the vendors would see the demand for LT1 hood for mid & late model C3 and make a profit on supplying one. Shame. What do you think?

If you look through a 'Vette part catalog you'll notice that there are two types of hoods. Stock for those that want an original look, and custom for those that don't. You'll notice that most of the custom hoods are pretty flashy, as that's what the custom/hotrod crowd is into.

Guess there's not a lot of market for making the rubber bumpers look like older cars. There was a forum member who even went as far as make a bolt on rear chrome bumper conversion for 74-82's, and I have not seen one completed conversion yet.

I think it was a good idea but for reasons I couldn't really understand he ended up making a number of changes to the styling of the original 68-73 rear and the end result was rather odd looking.

rodney25, there are 2 style L88 hoods for your application; the 4" tall design as you have noted, and the shorter stock L88 design (2½" tall) for those that want the look and a little more height as you stated.....

This is the one you want....http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...Product_Viewed

NOT THIS ONE........http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1973-1976.html

Hi C3 Stroker,

Thanks for the info. I call Eckerts and they told me that the one you indicated as 2 1/2 is 4+" and the tall one is 5+". Can you confirm the height? Do you or anyone have any pics? Thanks

That's odd, because the tall one is actually advertised on Ecklers site as 4" tall, and 1½" taller than the shorter one at 2½" tall. No one makes a 5+" tall L88 hood as a stock item. The shorter one is like mine, and I just measured mine at 2½" tall. When I bought mine, I got the one that they are telling you is 4+"..????......what ruler are they using?. See my sig pic.....that one is 2½" tall, not 4".

They told me to check the pdf on the web site for the model number and the pdf states 4+". My corvette is av1975. What model hood did you get? What year is your Corvette?

OK,.....I just checked the pdf you referenced. They are measuring from a different reference point. They are measuring from carb drain rails, which is below hood height as measured across from fender to fender. If you take a string across from fender to fender, and measure hood height from there, their 4+" hood only measures 2½" above body line. That is, you will see 2½" of scoop through your windshield.....this is the reference that is commonly stated when referring to scoop height.

Is that right, bless you. That's perfect. I was confused why they say 4+". They really should clarify that. I bet like me so many people have not purchased one because they think it is too high.
Thank you so much for your time and clearing this up. I guess I will take back the foam I purchased and the fiberglass sheets.

Again thank you very much!!!!!!!
Can you post any pics of yours?
