Hi T-Boy 67, I have a 77 as well, however I have not swapped a BBC into it as you are planning. I went with a 427 SBC instead. At any rate I think that what I found was that I would need all the specific BBC Vette pulleys and brackets to make the BBC fit where the SBC is currently installed.

You might also need a larger rad to handle the extra cooling requirement. The headers for our Vettes are quite specific and you might have to get a specific BBC header to fit the 77 as regular BBC headers are likely to have clearance problems.

Another area that you might need to consider is that the front suspension springs are setup for the weight of the SBC. If your BBC is heavier then you might have to replace the front springs to suit.

Finally you may have to closely consider the height of your intake and induction system. Our Vettes have low hoods and I know I had to take that into consideration when selecting a intake manifold for my Dart SBC.

I know it doesn't sound like a lot of items to consider, but when I added up the extra cost it didn't make sense for me to source a BBC plus all the extras that is why I went with the 427 SBC.

Best of luck on your engine swap. Don

Tboy,

I put a BBC in my 76. I ordered all pulleys and brackets to fit the 71 through 74 corvette. It all went together pretty easy.

Make sure you put the fuel pump on before you drop it in the car. Don't know if there's room to take it off or put it on with motor in car. I was running a Holley 110gph mechanical. A stock GM pump would probably have more room.

I use the Procomp short valve covers. They look good (to me anyway) and fit just fine with brake booster. I have 1.7 roller rockers.

I am running the Dewitts radiator and dual spal fan setup. I have problem with higher temperatures on the highway, don't think its necessarily the radiator. I think I am in the same boat as 77Chevyman.

I race my car most weekends at State Capitol. You must be somewhere in South LA with a name like Tboy. I'm in Baton Rouge.

Right now my motor is on an engine stand. I just put in a hydraulic roller cam. engine is ready to go but I am working out of town for the next two weeks.

Roger
