Random guy came into the coffee shop tonight, a very busy Saturday night, a kid, my age... maybe a little older 30. Look out the window and see a Diablo. The guy gets his coffee and I mention my Corvette. Everyone crowds around the beaut dark metallic grey car and what not. Guy turns to me in the crowd and asks me if I want to go for a spin?
Get the o.k. with my best friend who's working with me to cover and we are on our way. I ask him to punch it on the on ramp to the freeway and very few gut -renching moments later we are at cruising speed 140mph. So STABLE!!! All wheel drive... 12 cylinders.. auto-ride height adjusting..etc.
Then, we exit the freeway and after I have suitably impressed him with my good questions- he gets out of the car- in the middle of the intersection and demands that I get behind the wheel.
So I did.
Back on the freeway we go, and man this thing was so much easier to drive at speed than my Vette it wasn't even funny. Sure it was VERY fun, but not nearly as dicey and intensive of an experience as our rides.
So I felt good. My ride feels almost as fast- kind of- and is way harder to drive.
We get back to shop 15 minutes later, after the requisite little cruise down the strip- and man I get looks in the vette -but SCREAMs from the random women- another experience altogether. Get out of the car with a perma-grin. The guy compliments my driving. Go back in and make someone a coffee mocha.
MY only question, is could the General do as well for the same price???
that sort of price is way in hell out of my league, so if we compare factory hotrods we have to consider price....even have to consider price for any hotrod effort...
Yeah, apples and oranges factoring in price. My point was skill involved... btw he mentioned something about 300,000$ after we sat down later to talk cars... hehe...
Wow that is sooooo AWESOME ! I don't think I could sleep the whole night after an experience like that ;) . That guy was very  to take someone out for a ride and then to let them drive it ! I can't imagine
I kept waiting for the last line.... "And then I woke up!"
Are you sure that really happened???
Did you get his autograph at least?? :)
Most of the past posts are, "I SAW a Diablo today".... I would settle for the "got a ride in a Diablo today". That is pretty wild to actually drive one. MJ

REASONS WHY U WOULD LET A STRAMGER DRIVE UR $300K LAMBO-->
#1 Cos ur a serial Killer
#2 Insanity
#3 Cos the car is stolen anyway so better him driving than me
#4 Trying to pick up people of the opposite sex (or SAME sex)
#5 Its was a dare at the local country club
Reminds me of when Jay Leno comes by, every Tuesday, and wants me to test thrash ALL his cars. Right after my weekly home run contest with Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire. :jester
Driving a Lambo is nothing short of heaven and wish we still had ours. I too hope to buy a used Diablo in the fuure. Here is our car when my dad bought it in '86.
xrated: what ever lets you sleep at night. Dude was straight, just a nice a guy. They do exist. Totally sane. Investment Banker. He was 30, no country club. I come across wrather well, if I do say so myself, and I think he enjoyed himself just letting another guy complete a Diablo fantasy. If I was in his position, I know I would do the---
Wait what ever, I DROVE A DIABLO and it was so cool!!! That was all. :) :) :) :) :yesnod: :yesnod:
Thanks for sharing.
That story was EXCELLENT! :yesnod:
Sometimes giving unexpected generosity can be very rewarding. I'm sure that he enjoyed it as much as you did.
A fraternity brother has a Countach. We played around with it a bit. I wa amazed at how crappy the interior build quality was. Panels were not aligned, things were sticking out. The gauges rattled in the dash. Yes it went like a bat out of hell but looked like it was made by a bunch of monkeys.
And I was just about to go out and buy a new Diablo... really.... but then I checked Summit and Jegs for Diablo parts, and they don't have any!
Bummer. So I put my money back in the bank. :)
That's so cool. A friend of mine went on a company trip to Hawaii last year and one of the rich execs rented a Diablo and he got to go for a ride in it for 30 minutes. He's been around a lot of cars and said that was the ultimate ride without a doubt. He called from Hawaii just to tell me.
I just hope to drive a Z06 or Viper someday, can't imagine a Diablo.

Mike, I sure hope so. I let our babysitter's boyfriend drive my Vette . . . I think he thought he was in a Diablo . . . Both his hands were on the Wheel at 10 & 2 with white knuckles.   He is only 16 and a very good kid. I may have to let him take our sitter to prom in it next year if they're still dating.
