Default power window question for an 80

I want to replase my power window motor without removing the glass or the regulator. It is not riveted to the regulator but the bolts are hard to get at. What are the steps that I will have to take?? I was told something abour locking the regulator arm before removing the motor, can this be done with out removing the regulator ???

You can lock the regulator arm, by simply aligning the holes between the arm and the plate that the motor is installed in. Then putting a bolt or something that will stay in there with tension on it, because there is a large spring that preloads the whole thing.

You should also check the condition of all the gear teeth as well. Often, after years of hard use and no grease, you'll find that not only are the motor gears wiped out, but the regulator gears themselves have suffered. If all the gears look good, and the motor actually works you should first try cleaning out the old grease and then apply grease to all the tracks, arms and gears. You'd be surprised what a little lubrication can do. And this applies to both doors.

Thank you for that info. The teeth on the regulator look good so I will give it a shot and get as much grease as I can on the regulator parts that I can reach.

Thank you very much for the help.

Its pretty tough to get the motor out without removing the regulator, I've done it but I have had mine apart about 5 times chasing problems.

If the regulator is not rivited someone has had it out before.

Jim, I am sure that it had been changed in the 35 years of service. About 4 years ago I replaced the motor and regulator on the other side. that was not too hard to do, but I think I will give it a shot.
Thank You
Joe.
