Are there any clearance issues with the stock valve cover on a big block part #1411-16 Comp says they should fit no problem. I thought maybe someone on the forum has crossed this bridge already. Lmk any problems with the drippers etc?
I'm not speaking from personal experience with these but from what I have heard there isn't a clearance issue with roller tip rockers, just with the roller fulcrum rockers, especially if your sticking with 1.7 ratio. Now with full rollers you'll need a taller valve cover, although Harland Sharp sent me an e-mail saying they have one that will clear the stockers. I went with the Crane Gold Race, and they deffinitly needed the tall valve covers.

Thanks, Thats what I thought, but it never hurts to have a second or third opinion. The Harland Sharp rockers you refered to are the Diamond series. You have to remove drippers and baffles to make them work.

I run a 73 BB and the Comp Cam roller tip rockers fit just fine under both the stock steel covers and aftermarket chrome ones. When I replaced the stock stamped ones I also replaced the guide plates and the pushrods as some were beat up on the tips. Had them in for 3 years and no problems.

Thanks,
Did you use the aftermarket covers with drippers or without?
The replacement valve covers (same height as stock just chromed) looked the same as the steel ones that were one the car. I assume they had drippers. I have not had any valve train noise or failures so whatever they are they are working ok.
Is there a gain in performance with this? I am sure there is, but I think only a before/after on the dyno could really tell. The main reason I did it was I had several origional rockers that looked pretty beat and the total price for new pushrods, guides and rockers was not much more than all stock parts. Oh, if you do this, make sure you use all new grooved ***** and adjusting nuts and then coat each part with assembly lube as you are putting it together. Good luck.
Hi
Will the comp roller tip rockers also work with solid lifter cam ?
Will they take the beating of the valve lash ?
This for my 68 big block, L71 heads.
Where's a good place to buy them from ?
The new stamped steel rockers, I installed last year, didn't make it.
2 of them broke and 1 cracked. Had to reinstall the original GM set to get the car back on the road.
Thanks, Gunther
Yo,
Well they are installed and motor is up and running, Put aprox. 35 miles on motor and removed covers for inspection. Everything seems fine. One note: there was a small amount of fine metallic powder around each rocker arm. could only be seen by wiping inside of head with clean towel. I dumped the oil and cleaned the area inside the cover. I rechecked a few times today no more issues. I can only assume it was from the rocker and the ball seating to each other. The motor runs noticebly smoother can't really comment on performance yet.
