Default Radiator Inlet Nozzle

I have a Dewitts Radiator in my 76. the inlet neck has (2) diameters. The radiator hose fits snug around the larger diameter segment. Anyone know the reason for the 2 different sizes?

I am thinking of cutting off the smaller portion. When my engine is running I have some bubbles/foam and it runs hot at highway speeds.

Seems like the smaller neck would significantly restrict flow and introduce turbulence, causing some foaming.

Just installed mine a little while ago. I looked at that and said should I? so I did.. Cut it at the height of the ridge.

Later cars used a smaller radiator hose. My '77 uses the larger size and on my Dewitts I did not cut off the smaller neck. Car runs to the thermostat themperature even when it is 105 degrees outside. mike...
