I have a second alarm system on my 79 vette. It appears to be maybe dealer installed. There is a key in the left fender that moves a cable to lock the hood. It has a hood switch and a battery compt switch. Also has a motion box installed under the hood. When i try to set alarm it has a seperate siren that is very loud. Has anyone seen this before that may have some info on the system. Thanks Dave
Yes the factory alarm is sill installed and working.
Mine too!! Or I assume it does, when I turn key to the left all the way it triggers the alarm. (A horn) Haven't really got to experiment with it yet. Do you have any info about how the factory alarms are supposed to work? I have a 79 also.
Sorry I can't help you with your question!

My Factory alarm works fine, you have to lock the door with the key or at least turn the key to about 10oclock position to set the alarm. The hood, doors and T tops must be closed for this to work, I spent a long time thinking mine had a fault becuase it triggered every time I set it until I learned that the T tops also have a switch in the socket of the pin receiver and must be in place and locked before the alarm will set. This alarm uses a seperate horn to your car horns, it is mounted behind the water bottle in the left guard, hard to get to and see, if your alarm doesnt work this is the first place to look/test.
