HELP! 82 Fuel pump replacement
Also while it's out I was trying to check the resistance on the float and tried different methods but didn't work so what is the correct way in doing so?? My fuel gauge is showing a little under a 1/4 and when looked in the tank it looks to be about a 1/3 full.
Why don't you just upgrade the pump you have?

The float issue is another thing. Use a fish line. You can pull the float up and down, bend adjust until you get it right. Some times no mater what you won't get it right. Tanks have a bladder in them that lifts and will always get in the way.
Remember the tank is deeper at the rear. So looking a third full maybe alright.
Its a bit of a pain putting the assemble in and out. so run the fish line around the float and bring both ends up out of the tank. That way when it test right you can just let go of one end of the fish line and pull it all out. Don't tie it to anything.
