Default Headlight vacum help! (Are they supposed to do this??)

Ok so far this is what I have done:

Replaced the actuators, with new seals and dust boots.
Replaced all the old hosing with new hosing.

But my passanger headlight always comes up first, follwed by the driver headlight next. Is this normal? I thought they were supposed to come up at the same time? What else should I try??

Thanks,

Mike.

I wonder if one of those vacuum delays that Ford used in the hose to the distributor would help. Maybe put in line with the passenger light.

I have never seen 2 lights come up at the same time. There are so many variables, vacuum line length, leakage at the cannister seals, tee leakage etc. etc. Let me know if you ever seen a C-3 Vette's lights come up at the same time.

Even electrics don't always come up at the exact same time.

Just be glad they both come up. I always have to shut my lights off before I pull in the driveway & garage. Otherwise, I have to high-idle it in the garage to get them shut.

Both the lights come up at the same time on my friend's 98 but it is 4 years old, my girl is going on 25 years old, I accept it. :D :D

I guess you guys are right, they both go up and down with no apparent problems. Just bugs me that I spent so many hours cleaning, replacing and re-installing just to find out that they will never work "perfectly".

Thanks for the advice and info!

Mike.

When they were new, they worked right, but age is the problem of every thing.
I have the same problem with about 10 sec diference, and I'm looking to put some elec, stuff in. I have a neighbor who has them but he already bought it like that and doesn't let me "take it apart to see how it works" :D

My passenger side pops up first, when it's totally up then the drivers side start to pop slowly... I'll have to check the lines for leakege etc. Looks kind funny though to get them up slowly and one by one... ;)

I know one -73 which lights pop up almost at the same time, lights also come up very fast... This is kind strange because the hoses are guite old, maybe not original but old anyway...

Mine are about 2 seconds apart (don't recall which one is quicker). They both work well so I don't sweat it too much.

Even the NCRS performance verification test - which is supposed to assure that every thing works as GM intended - allows for some reasonable separation. I forget the exact wording, but I think they should be in motion at the same time. I don't they have to start at the same time or go at exactly the same rate, but they have to both be moving at once.

I agree with Don.....mine come up with the driver one very slightly ahead of the passenger one. That may or may not be the way they should be, but basically they go up and down on command and that's all that really matters to me.

Mine come up at the same time but my passenger side lags behind by about a half a second. No problem and all my hoses and actuators are original. I guess I am just lucky.

The headlights usually have some plastic protectors that you can see through your grill. These protector/covers sometimes warp and the light gets caught...kind of stuck.... when it opens. Mine did this until I took a small, black wire tie and drilled a little hole in the middle of the cover and wiretied it to the grill. I'm not sure if that's your problem...but it was mine.

Mines the same way, very close but not perfect, drivers side is always the first up all the way.

I know mine, take their sweet time, but I can't find, or see a sign, of any bind, or nasty grind, they don't finish at the same time, and that's just fine.

Man, I've been on the forum too long today.
