Default My bubba fan shroud progress...and more problems

I started my bubba fan shroud repair tonight. I figure with some black paint and Black RTV to seal the gaps, it may look passable.

However, I noticed another mind boggling problem.....the stock 18" fan will NOT fit under my bubba shroud....it doesnt even fit with the shroud removed. (Ive only got 8.5 inches clearance from the waterpump to the shroud lip) Either the 18" fan doesnt belong on this car or there are other alignment issues. Im growing tired of replacing EVERYTHING on this car...Im going to install a 16 inch fan and be done with it.

AND while I was down there I noticed my driver front caliper is pissing all over the place. $$$$$$$$$. This damn car. I just want to get ahead of the game, make a little forward progress....at least I got one speaker installed tonight....

My advice would be to use the stock water pump, pulley, clutch, fan, and shroud. Are you running an aftermarket radiator?

Mike, what I assume to be stock, 18", will not fit. Even with by bubba shroud removed, the 18 inch fan I have will not clear the stock shroud, even in its 'cut back' configuration. I also assume the radiator is stock. The whole car is a mismatch of 72/82 parts, Im thinking that somewhere, a few of the donor parts just arent lining up correctly. The whole radiator shroud, supports and frame look like they have been cobbed together.

Even with everything supposingly "right," there is only minumal clearance between the fan blade and the shrould extension in my car (1/2") and to be on the safe side, I cut the extension just a bit in one area for piece of mind. I might add, it was a replacement (now currently available shrould extension). I ended up repairing my oem shrould cause the replacements now available are garbage and out of spec. Re: the caliper - even with S/S sleeves, I had to hone my right front caliper to stop it from leaking after a seal rebuild.

Summit had a 16" nylon fan for 15 bucks. Thats going to be my first attempt. Im hoping between my bubba shroud extension and the larger fan, Ill see some cooling difference. If not, I can always go back and go to a high volume pump. Id love to dig into this further and replace the water pump and all the radiator mounts and the shroud right now, but Im at the end of my budget. Im at that critical statge where I need to decide if this car is going to be a long term investment or a 'drive it for a year or two' and sell it kind of thing.
