Need QUICK help (cam/timing set related - roller block)
I was planning on getting my motor together but I am seeing an issue.
I have an 880 block. I got it with a flat tappet cam. Bought a roller cam with stepped nose. Got the retainer plate. Also got Jeg's timing set for factory roller block.
Cam is in, but when retainer plate installed the cam can move back and forth (think: endplay) gotta be close to .100" and when it's pushed fully into the block, the timing gear rubs.
I have to be missing something... but what?
Whatever it is, I need to track it down ASAP. Motor was supposed to go back in this weekend as I am losing my garage workspace by the end of the month when my buddy moves out.
It will rub that boss, you can grind it down. Those blocks work with a special single row roller timing set specificaly made for '88 & up vortec style blocks.
