Calling up Vette Brakes and getting adaptors, and moving the parking brake brcket to the top or the backside of the trailing arm. Thats is all I am told is to it. I have some 17x9.5 ZR1 wheels that I will be fitting up to my 69 when I get my engine problems ironed out. I can't wait!
I have '92 vette wheels on mine 2.5 inch Vette Brakes wheel adaptors...and move the E brake as previously said...
the spacing/dimensions are the same....
I limited the steering by expanding with a bolt and spacers...the snub blocks for the steering knuckles on the front also....that made the radius still better than a '87 stock vette...
if you go with the 3" adaptors, you won't have as bad a clearance problems on the front. i, personally, didn't even need to move the e-brake cable bracket. how is mine so different?
With the three inch adapters, do the wheels stay inside the fenders or do they stick out some? I would like to see some pics of yours from a different angle if possible.
custom72, i'm assuming your talking to me, i don't have any pics of the car from front or rear (yet) that i can e-mail you. with the 3" and 8.5" they are right at the body line. with my 9.5" (i have a set of both :D ), they just barely stick out. the 9.5" aren't that big a deal since i only run them for track days anyway. :) e-mail me if you want me to send you some pics, front and back when i get them.
2.5 inch adaaptors is the correct measurement, any more than that and the wheel centerline is off set to the outside, fine for inside clearance but will shorten hell out of the rear hubs life....stress on bearings, probably well affect camber also, and toe....in front the bearings are far enough apart that the extra 1/2 inch may not stress them too much,....
I think any engineer will agree to keep the centerline the same...
gene, when running the c-4 wheels on a c-3 the 9.5" wheels have a 7" offset whereas the 8.5" wheels have a 6.5" offset. 3" adaptors on the 9.5" wheels will approximate the original wheel centerline as closely as the 2.5" adaptors on the 8.5" wheels. i would agree that the 2.5" adaptors would be the best selection for anybody mounting a full set of 8.5" wheels on a c-3. however, if a full set of 9.5" wheels is to be used, you need to run a 3" adaptor on the front to prevent running the inside of the tire into the frame or swaybar. i could be wrong but i would think that continually runnning the tires into the frame will be just as hard on the bearings, not to mention the hub and lugs, tires and other related suspension components, as running a bit too much offset.
if someone were to get a set of '93 and later base coupe wheels, which include 8.5"/front and 9.5"/rear then it is appropriate to match accordingly. while on that thought, if anybody is contemplating this, i have a pair of the 2.5" adaptors i'd like to swap for a pair of 3".
