Default Show me your modified solid tranny crossmembers?

One of our fellow overseas Vette owners (Günther-C3) is having a heck of a time installing the new RS500 manual tranny. So I would like for him to see pictures of how you cut yours and made it removable.

The above is much toooooo complicated, all I did was sawzall the cross member about 4" off at each end, leaving a tag on the rails....

to make it easy on the exhaust pipes, I cut out the bottom section of the loops, and cut it wide on each side, then boxed in the open ends of the frame and built a small bridge structure in the top of the curved section, for strength....

the removable section has a 2" angle iron welded to each end, that rides on the top/rear of the stubs, plus a smaller welded piece under it, this forms a strong flange that is held to the stubs with a 1/2" bolt going fore/aft.....

my way, 6 bolts total, and the entire exhaust system is on the ground....4 more bolts and the cross member is on the ground, shifter and all.....

I have a 200 4r in there now, it was a Muncie 4 speed....

spent more time driving the cross member over to my welder buddy's place than actually doing the mod work.....

Doesn't sound too complicated to me. You've got to be very careful but sounds pretty straightforward.

Used rectangular tubing that had the same ID dimension as the outside of the X-member.
Welded tubes to the cut out piece & bolted that to the X-Member.
simplier than welding ears on both ends .

I like it and the brackets are cheap enough.

I used a method previously discussed on CF. I did not use flanges. I cut the crossmember at a 45* angle and fabricated a piece to fit inside. Four bolts with internal nut plates hold it in place.

YUP, pretty much what I did, but MY solution puts the angle iron in the upper/lower REAR of the cross support, with a fore/aft bolt as you did....

and opening up the bottoms of the exhaust loops, makes the pipes SO easy to drop, as mentioned above.....

Here's a few photos of mine. Wish I taken a couple while out of the car but it's similar to the one done in the link gkull provided. Originally a 4-speed now a 4+1 Doug Nash.
