Default Sidepipe exhaust anchoring?/Baffles?

guys,
Those of u with side pipes, how did you attach the length pipe below the door?
I have been looking at photos and it appears some attached the the anchor points through the lower aluminum trim below the door and some took it off, painted that area and anchored it without the trim on?
Looking at mine I was thinking about removing the lower aluminum trim panel, fastening it behind and then putting the trim panel back on so no exposed fasteners are seen..all I could get the wife to go for were there maximizers!!price wise it was those or nothing, so I bought them...Stainless steel version...
The pipes came with someting like 3/4" fastener holes on the brackets predrilled, but no rubber grommets or anchors..I have some rubber washers I planned on using anyways and predrilling with some tapping screws, but I dont really want to fasten through my trim..I'd like to keep the fasteners hidden at all cost..
1- do I need to wrap parts of them? worried about the starter getting too hot
2- How did you guys fasten yours?
3- they come with no baffles. Will they be louder than hell with my 76stock 350 low ***** motor? If so, what baffles to consider for a moderate growl? I want some beef to the sound, but not overbearing, obnoxious cop attentionators!!!Would like to still talk to the wife when cruising or she'll hate it!! And be pissed at me for spending the dough!!
Thanks guys,
I'm all ears..
Thanks,
J

Here's the mounting you'll need to order. The two bent pieces of metal with the hole is where this kit will install using the oval slots in the frame. You will need to remove the rocker trim plates to install the side tubes then this kit then reinstall the rocker covers. That all sounds simple but can be tricky depending on how your side pipes end up fitting on your car. You'll more than likely have to do some trimming on the rocker covers to get them back on. You'll have to insert the side pipe tubes on an angle, rotating the tube while moving it around to get it to slip on then the same with the covers. Start them on an angle watching the painted surface (don't scratch) along with the clamp screw on the side pipes.

No baffles will sound loud and horrible. Based on what you described as your choice of sound and volume level the hooker glass pack inserts would provide for your needs. They are not the best for performance and exhaust flow but have a nice rumble and you can carry on a conversation in the car. STS, Max Flows or the Vettepacks I have are louder because the flow but talking with the windows down in town is hard (not impossible) but the glass packs will make the wifey happier.

I would give serious consideration to installing the stainless steel shields too. One time not thinking about the hot pipes when getting out can leave a hooker tattoo that could be avoided.

Anyway, good luck. It's not the hardest job in the world but it's not easy either. With some basic mechanical inclination you can get it done.

Excellent advice! To make my "fits the C3 vette perfectly" sidepipes I had to elongate the frame holes by nearly too inches, rebend the pipe brackets, make an additional standoff bracket for the left side collector so the sidepipe would slide into the collecter and run parallel to the frame rail.
You do need to install heat shields! I used shields from a cobra and painted them to match the car.

palmbeachvette76,
Nice write up...I appreciate the great advise..Got the pipes on but not attached the side pipes yet...Your right about the rocker covers, they are tight against the front now, some fitting will be required... A little tough by myself, kinda of a balacing act using my foot to work the bottom angle and bending over the fender feeding them up and in!!! It wasnt that easy as my words make it, and few swear words seem to happen in the process!!
I agree on the heat shields!! I will forget for sure, no doubt!! and if the wifee gets burned, well lets just say she'll burn me back!! ha ha..
I just need to figure out which ones to get..
i'll do some u tube checking out the baffle sounds as well..Im anxious to start it, but I need to put eveything back together first, so hopfully this weekend!!
appreciate the input, You guys on this forum are great people..

Thanks Redman ( I use to chew that back in the baseball days)..Its what I kinda figured after talking to palmbeachvette76... I didnt get any instructions, bolts and the gaskets they sent obstructed the exhaust port about 3/8" around the openings, so I had to trim each one to fit for maximum flow!!( sounds like a good name for a maxi pad huh? Maximum flow!! Im twisted, sorry..lol

I'll need to make another trip to local hardware store to get the rest of the bolts and such...
Thanks
J

*Now that I got these nice pipes I have an extra set (new)of stainless DNA headers I was going to use until exhaust plans got changed!!! I know the DNA headers fit, because I put them on then realized the dual exhaust I ordered wouldnt work!!

Are there ant special rules to sell parts on the forum?
i'll have to read up on that..

What did you guys do with your stock headers? save 'em just in case or pitch them?sell them? I always save stuff like that, then 10 yrs later I end up tossing the stuff after i get tired of tripping over it in the attic!!

I saved my headers when I changed to the sidepipes because you never know when you might get another one and will need them.

Default mount side tubes

What I did was put each tube in a vise and bent the brackets flat then put them on and marked where the holes are under the frame. I then drilled and taped threads in the holes. The frame is soft and drilling was easy. I then bolted them up using the mounting kits. This was a lot easier then trying to in large the holes in the side frame. After I was done I jumped on them and they were super strong. I'm not saying it's the right way but it was much-much easier then how they say to do it. The hole thing took me an hour. Good luck.
