I need to bleed the brakes on my car but I have so many things to do to finish it I decided to try gravity bleeding the brakes.
I filled the master cylinder and opened the bleeder on the left front last night. This morning the fluid level has not changed at all. How many days...weeks...or months does it take to bleed them this way?
Seriously, am I doing something wrong or should I use the tryed and proven method of bleeding with 2 people?
Letting it run dry is the biggest problem with gravity bleeding. I've tried it a couple times & it takes so long I always get destracted and let it drain out and have to start again. So for me, gravity bleeding's for the birds.
My new favorite way to bleed the brakes is a 56" length of 3/4" PVC pipe. You use the two person method, basically, and pipe is the second person. You stand outside the car (nice to not have to constantly climb in and out), pump the brake pedal slowly with the pipe, then place the end of the pipe over the door striker. It will "bow" and keep the pedal depressed. Then you walk over and crack the bleeder & as it bleeds the pipe slowly pushes the pedal to the floor. Tighten bleeder and repeat. Works GREAT and no bugging the wife to pump the pedal. This is forum member Cluchdust's invention, and is quick and clean and cost .80 at Lowes!
BTW, why are you starting with the front brakes? You need to start with the caliper farthest from the MC.
Yellow 72. I have the speedbleeders and have had no problems. You can put new sealant on the threads. It is available at the speedbleeder.com website and must be available elsewhere.
If you have an air compressor the ONLY way to bleed your brakes is pressure bleeding. You can make a simple plate for under $20 to do this and in my experience it is FAR superior in both method and result to any other method. My brakes are now rock hard!
