Since I don't have the time just yet to fix the switch that is "suppose" to shut off the flow of hot water, and thus stop warm air from coming out of my lower vents, I would like to install a mannual cutoff switch in line with it (in hopes that one day I'll get around to fixing the orginal valve). Until then I would like to manually shut it off. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can get a valve that will fit in the line? I have a '79 L82 but I imagine this is standard.
Are you sure the switch is even getting switched? I had the same problem with my '80.. all it needed was an adjustment.. REALLY EASY.. well, I had to pull my glove box to actually see the switch working.. but that was a 1/2 :smash: to do..
I bought one from Autozone for about $13.00 I believe it was for a 78-79 chevy (fits a 5/8's hose). It supose to have a cable hooked to it but I just left it in the shut position. My 73 did not come with one.
When I bought my 75, it had been fit with a manual heater hose valve.
It was the type that you might have in-line with the water pipes in a house.
It is the ball-type valve, with stainless ball, teflon seals, and bronze housing. Whoever installed it - they simply soldered two short pieces of
3/4" copper piping onto each end. It's a bit tight - even for the larger hose,
but it worked beautifully. I fully intend to put it back when my body makes
it back to the chassis.
