Yepper. The engine is in the car, running and has over 500 miles on it already. It's currently getting me a solid 6-8 miles per gallon :D. I'm really pretty satisfied with the finished results considering this is my first engine rebuild and I did it all on my own (plus the help from the guys and gals on the forum).
I like my setup but I wish I had gone with a set of R-Port open chambered heads and higher domed pistons to give me 10.5-11.0 CR with the open chambered heads. I also wish I would have had my block "0" decked, I don't know why I didn't....I'm kicking myself in the butt for that. Had I gone with R-Ports I think I would have gone with the 306 solid lifter cam instead of my 294 solid lifter cam. I am currently in the process of changing my intake from the Torker II to probably a Holley Strip Dominator. I am also looking into either a set of 3.55s or 3.70s for my rear end. I really do have a lot more bottom end than I had anticipated though (considering my cam and rear gears). Oh yea, I also wish I would have had the money to get a 4340 forged crank. I'm also still kind of wishing I had built a 496 stroker motor. All in all it was definitely fun and the first ride is a memory that will forever stay with me.
Are you thinking of going big block? If so, feel free to ask me any questions.
Don't beat yourself up to much with what you shoulda/coulda done. Like most of us, you were on a budget and with that comes the inevitable compromises that you have to make. Sounds like you did good.
