Default Need some Timing help

Just picked up a new toy to keep my corvette company
My new Toy my 67 impala has some strange going on.

According to my time light intial time is close to 36 degrees and when revved up goes to over 60 degrees. The Dist is and MSD with no vacuum advance and a streetfire ignition. We verified all wires are going to the correct plugs. The Balancer is and aftermarket Summit Balancer. I know there is no way the timing reading can be corect at is would be pinging like crazy. Any thought would be appreciated

Could the harmonic balancer have slipped?

Could be a possible but doubt it. The guy who built the car has a hot rod shop in NC. I am wondering if the msd box could be the issue. I am using a craftsman timing light with adjustable advance.

Wrong pointer on the cover for the given balancer. You can use a piston stop to verify the timing pointer actually matches to TDC mark on the balancer.

Thats what I was thinking. Going to call summit up tomorrow as it their balancer. The timing cover has the tab welded to it so I know its not the original cover.
