Well your work load just got cut in half. For me the hard part was removing the old one.

Found an old picture that the previous owner took that showed the mount, which he had replaced. The AIM shows the bolt going in from the top, with the nut on the bottom (facing the ground). He had it in the other way, with the bolt going up and the nut on top...the cushions are mint...so that nut probably worked its way off and the bolt just slid out and here we are. Ordered the kit today.

As for the rest of the components in the area, they look good. The diff doesn't seem to have any play in the yokes, all the u-joints are nice and tight, and the bushings are in good shape. Going to to need to replace the rear seal on my transmission as I mentioned earlier, and haven't decided if I have the cajones to drop the drive shaft yet. Also need to replace my strut rods as the current ones are bent a little...probably a Bubba camber move due to worn bushings or yokes at the time...but like I said the yokes are nice and tight. Ordered some rods as well, just stock type. Will get some more pics up as I go (doing a pile of other stuff over the next two weeks).

Glad you found what was causing the noise but where did all that oil come from, and what kind of oil was it ?

Good question...the oil leak, which got very bad at the same time as the diff mount came free, is at either the rear main seal or the rear of the pan gasket. Going to pull those tonight. 100% engine oil. My feeling is that when the diff came completely free (in most cases I could see the cushion is shot or the bolt is loose, not completely gone) the resulting heavy slop in the drivetrain caused lots of problems in the seals around the transmission, etc. Willing to bet the mount bolt was very loose for a long time before it dropped out of there, and may have also contributed to the leak in the rear seal of the trans because of irregular movement.

I believe the '70 has the mechanical oil pressure gauge. Check the connection and the line near the distributor. That can cause a leak that looks like a rear seal.

Thanks, will check it. It may have a slow leak in addition to the gusher from underneath. If it does, how is it sealed? Thanks.

Guys, need some help...can't find the snubber mount (bolt) kit anywhere close to me in Alberta. I can buy a grade 8 bolt at Lowe's however if someone knows the dimension of this thing. Anyone?

I don't think you are likely to find that part in Canada. You're going to have to order it from Wilcox, Corvette Central, Zip, Mid America, etc. The bolt might be fairly straighforward, but the cushion is a specialty part.

This is where it appears I somehow got lucky...the cushions are nearly mint and are intact (both). I don't know how. The bolt, nut, and washers flew the coup. That's why if I can find out the correct length of the bolt I can probably hit Lowe's and come away with a band-aid. Hard to measure from under the car.

I had a look through my pile of old parts. I don't have a bolt, but I did find an old set of cushions. When I measure them they are about 1 3/4" thick and appear to take a 1/2" bolt (maybe 7/16" ?). Therefore if you get a couple of bolts that are 2 1/2 - 3" long, and make sure they are threaded to within 1 3/4" of the head, one of them should work. Hope this helps.

7/16 by approximate 3 1/2 inch. Diameter is accurate but length was using a tape measure.

That was the right size, thanks. Got a grade 8 from Lowes and tossed it in there.

Torqued to spec...65lbs...but that spec seems to really compress the upper cushion.

I had to play with the torque on mine because to tight will cause vibration and to loose causes other problems
I used a captured nut and I would say I have about 20ft lb of torque.

I just replaced the snubber on my '75, and I stopped well short of that because it was compressing substantially at around 40 or so lbs. if I remember. I was quite a ways up the bolt threads too, so I didn't want to go any farther. I haven't had the car on the road at all yet.

I'm going to back the torque out a bit tonight think, take it to 40 and see what it looks like. I feel like the amount of compression at 65 is going to 1. cause extra vibration and 2. substantially shorten the life of the cushions.
