I got my car back from the guy that did the body work and paint job last night. The body work is real good the paint has alot of dirt in it. i have painted outside and got less dirt. but, here is the kicker he did not tighten the whheels down and one came off 1/2 way home. Brand new ar136 wheel damaged 5 studs lost 4 lug nuts 1 lock. had to pull 2 lugs from the other wheel to cross threat on to get me home. the wheel had dings all over it from the lugs flying off and the inside lip had a grove from where the rotor caught it. I am getting prices now of the damage i'm guessing $200. the paint can be color sanded and buffed out later i can deal with that. pictures to follow. i called him after i got the wheel on and left a message on his phone he has not called yet. :mad :mad :boxing

AWWW MAN!! :mad :mad So sorry about those wheels. Hope the rotor/brakes are not damaged. Do you think this guy will compensate you for the loss? Pursue it to the max :yesnod: :yesnod: Wanna borrow my 12Gage to help persuade him? I just bought those AR136's too, and I love em. Good luck

Goes to show you the caliber of work people do these days and not just restricted to back yard mechanics. They have no concept of pride in workmanship and are only after the almighty buck.
I have said this before that some of these guys can't even tighten a nut properly. Happened with the new rear spring on my Corvette at a shop that only fixes Corvettes, about a month after I had the spring installed I looked underneath and 2 of three bolts were hanging down about inch ! I had to torque them down. On my Grand Am the same thing happened with my wheel, it was not tightened properly and I had a bad vibration on the highway luckily it did not fall off.
These events led me to buy a compressor and air tools and, as much as I would like to get someone else to do the work I have decided to do most of it myself

That is so completely EFFED up!! And who is going to tell you to make sure the wheels are screwed on when you pick your car up from the shop????? It's one thing to quietly check the oil to make sure they remembered to put oil in, but can you imagine taking out a 4-way and checking every wheel when you pick up your car? And what about me? I have rallys.... so I pop off the center caps and check each wheel? Do you think my mechanic would be a little insulted?? That just sux so bad it makes me puke! Not to mention you could have been killed. MJ

That's the scary part of having someone do your work. As a professional technician, I see red when this kind of thing happens to others, reflecting badly on us all. I do all my own work with the exception of finish paint, so I'm extremely nervous about leaving the car at a shop when I finally have it done. I believe the guy that is shooting it will actually let me help tape it and hang out while he shoots it. He's very understanding (he restores old Indian motorcycles) and deals with the same stuff.

I had a problem on a car I took in to get a new tire on. First, they put the tire on BACKWARDS. Apparently the "professional tire installer" didn't notice the "This side out" label on the tire. Goodyear tire - Goodyear store. Thought they'd know that, but... AND they damaged the wheel. Expensive German factory alloy wheel. I was so :mad :mad I could've spit bullets. Took them almost an hour to turn the tire around the right way AND they f***ed the wheel up even more. They did at least buy me a new wheel (that took 2 months to get), but I took it to a different place to get it installed.
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (emsrescu)
I wonder if you can have a court issue an order for him to quit working on cars because its a public saftey violation? Not only him causing a car accident, but him being responsible for some good person going postal on his butt. :mad
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (emsrescu)
Cool Picts Nice hood nice t-tops nice paint I am extremly jealous all I got is your leftovers ha ha ha ha no really loking very cool sux about the damage though
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (emsrescu)
Mind if I ask what it cost? Also, did you do any prep work yourself? It won't hurt my feelings if you want to keep it to yourself, but I am trying to get an idea of costs on this. I think it looks great. Heck, unless its a show car, it'll get dirty and such anyway :D
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (Wrencher)
i took all the stuff off. had a new hood from (ylose), new front bumper and stripper rear bumper. he did all the jambs and stripped the car doors forward. paid him $1800 and he got the supplys about $500 worth. he pocketed about $1300. he did the job at night and on weekends and it took him 4 weeks.
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (BigBadOrange)
That hood is cool
BTW, That really sucks. Let us know what the guy has to say when he calls you back. I bet you will have to take him to court to get anything. Even if he admits that he might have forgot to tighten one of the wheels over the phone, I bet he still won't offer to pay for damages. Just how people are now a days :bs
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (emsrescu)
Glad to still have you on the forum and not from the hospital...I just left her with a garage for some work and was gone a week. Upon returning, spoke to "the smog guy" who didn't speak English...the only word I understood was 'Transmission" (and I speak Spanish!!) and it was there for smog and carb stuff. I drove it right home, found the smog hoses were heater hoses and the dist hold down bolt was loose...They will not be getting dinero. :mad
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (emsrescu)
Two things.
1. Really you should have never taken delivery of the car if you werent happy with the paint. ( Do you buy broken windows at Home Depot or bald tires from the tire place)1300 is alot of money for the job that is not perfect.
2. I would be on his doorstep screaming for money and a new paint job and a second wheel to boot just for screwing with me.
Re: This sucks how the ---- can someone .... (emsrescu)
Let us know how the color sanding and buffing work out. My thinking is if that dirt is on the base coat and he painted all the coats of clear on top of the dirt, you may have a problem. I would make him buff that dirt out!! :yesnod:
