Does anyone know a SAFE tailshaft height for an 80 LS3/t56 swap. I know it will be tight. Im about to start fab work on a crossmember. I need a measurement from the top of the frame rails down to the center of the output shaft. OR... from the bottom of the frame rails up to the center of the output shaft. I have done a quick search and cant find this exact answer. This is frame and engine only so I cant use driveshaft alignment as a reference point.
I used a 1/4" plate for the mount and ended up putting it on the bottom plate of the auto trans crossmember to get enough clearance in the tunnel.
The shorter driveshaft causes a larger angle horizontally between the tailshaft and differential so I reasoned that the u-joint angle would be taken care of. I think I was correct since the only vibration I get in the drivetrain is lugging it at 60 mph in 6th gear. You don't need 6th under ~80 mph with the 3:36 rear end.
