I have a 1980 Corvette in which I replaced the motor this past winter. it runs great above idle and on the road but will not idle for me. Any suggestions on which direction to look? timing appears to be okay at 32 to 34 degrees. I retained the stock carburetor which was running just fine before I swapped the motor. my mechanic friend doesn't work on carburated cars and is not sure which way to look. thank you in advance for all your suggestions.
A can of carby cleaner with nozzle attached, squirt some in any place there's suspected vacuum leak. The engine will idle up if theres a leak and sucks some carby clean through.
I've also seen guys use a small gas torch (unlit of course) same principle, the gas will get sucked through the leak and idle up the engine.
Well I have drenched the engine bay in carb cleaner and get no difference. I do believe I am running real rich judging by the watering of my eyes. Will that affect my problem?

Reason: Fat fingers
If it's running rich you should have some black smoke out the tailpipe. Try creating a vacuum leak by pulling off a vacuum line or two. If that helps it would confirm that you are running too rich.
