From: TEXAS - you mean there are other states?
Default Interior Heat Problems

1969 Black/Black 427 Vette - Houston Texas.

'nuff said.

I am starting to research co0oling my car down on the interior and coordinating A/C upgardes. I reviewed archives on.....
insulation (any thoughts/testimonies)
foam collars (is this in addition to the one already on the car?)
foam collar at flywheel?
adding a block valve for the heater
sealing teh firewall from the engine compartment

Any further discussion, comments, etc? Any reductions in heat noted (ie: 20 degree for this/ 10 degree for that?)

I am also considering ordering the book "A/C strategies for the 63-82 Corvette"

You can get heat shielding material at some hardware store's. This is the stuff that goes under the carpet. I bought a kit but have read many post's of poeple cutting the stuff theirselves and saving money. Also if you have a 400 Turbo auto. they make a molded part with heat shielding on it that covers the whole tranny. Tint your windows. Check to see how dark you can go. Some states have laws against windows being to dark. Hope this helps. :conehead

I'm in Houston, and I have the same problem with my 350. I could only imagine how bad it is with a 427. I was looking through some Mid America catalogs today, and saw the under-carpet heat shielding. I was thinking about ordering some of the pre-cut shielding for when I put in my new carpet.

By far the best and most noticeable result in heat reduction for me was installing a ball valve in the heater hose to just shut off that hot coolant. That, and insulation under the carpet had me forgetting about the whole interior heat thing in one weekend. Big difference!

I know a whole trail of posts went around regarding the installation of the "shut off valve" in the heater hose. I just can't seem to find them. Links or directions on how to do this.

I wasn't as interested last fall as I am for the coming summer

As we know some years came with H2O shut off valves and some did not. If you are not worried about being 100% original just add a ball valve to each line. You can pick them up at any home improvement center. It`s easy to install them out of sight. I used the foil backed insulation under my carpet when I replaced my interior and it made a huge difference. Also check the firewall seals ,foamcollar, etc.

I have the book and found it useful. I ended up using a product called "Reflectix" from the local ACE hardware store. $40.- for a 50 ft. roll. The only down side is there is a possibility that it can crush in the heel area under the pedals. It cut the heat down by half at least.

I cured my heat problem by adjusting my hot/cold cable to trip the shut off valve and insulation.. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulat01.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate2.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate2.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate3.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate4.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate4.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate5.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate6.jpg http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/koz/insulate7.jpg

Easy Fix. 1) remove the heater hoses, 2) fix your A/C if you have one, 3) if no A/C roll your windows down. You are done.

Of course, "fix your A/C" is reserved for a future winter project.
