I was reading an old post about matching numbers and it said to check the engine stamp pad number against the last 6 digits of the vin.. Where is the engine stamp pad located? Easy to see or PITA..? Thanks!

Unless, like my car, the pad has been painted over and over (which it ought not to be!). Mine was easy to read at one time, now is impossible.

Or the block has been decked and the numbers are gone completly.

Passenger side, front of block right below the head. I couldn't read mine until I removed about 20 year of grease and dirt. Harder to see on a '80 because of the dual snorkle, A/C, air pump, heater pipe and billions of smog related hoses.
