Pulley System
I have a 1978 vette, with a loud whining noise coming from the pulley/belts. The mechanic said that I had on the wrong size belts on it. Assuming that the previous owner did some self mods and they weren't to good at it. So I was just wondering if anyone knows the size belt I need or a good kind of belt. Any help will do. Thanks

Could be a number of things. Are the pulleys the originals? Are they aligned? Are the belts too tight? Too loose? Does the noise go away with the belts removed? Can the noise be tracked to the alternator? Water pump? Power steering pump? A/C compressor? AIR pump? Idler pulley?
Most parts stores have pretty decent catalogs that cover belts by application- for the OEM installation. Dayco, Gates, NAPA and I'm sure some I can't recall the names of are usually decent belts.
