chip

just got 1982 drove the car 45 minutes computer went bad mech does want me to use old chip cant find original chip. how is the hypertech chip.

Hypertech chip will work fine, may change some of your settings but to improve power and fuel usage.

I had the same issue and went with hypertech chip. Its cheapest at amazon. I never drove it with a working stock prom, but I do appreciate the delayed tv lockup as I drive at 35 mph a lot and don't want it locking and unlocking. I don't believe there is any risk in trying your original chip in a new computer though as long as its installed correctly. Worst that can happen is a code 11. Proms very rarely fry their host device, mostly its the other way around.

FWIW: before you replace the chip, you should attempt to determine what may have fired the original chip.
