my 69? I just spend nearly 2 grand for getting it back on the road but I have been having difficulties getting the door panels and the door mechanisms back together correctly. I am really getting tired of working on this car. I have not stopped on this thing since december. and i just want to drive it. my neighbor told me to sell it and I'm seriously thinking about doing it.. what do you guys think? and would 15K be too much for a base model that was just repainted?
You will be sorry if you do. I was working on mine for almost 4 years before driving it. Many others have had or are in the same boat now. You have only been 6 months so far. It sounds like you are getting near the end. Why quit now it looks so good and it sounds like only minor things left to do. Keep plugging away at it. It will get done :yesnod:
Take a break from the car if you can. That will help ease the frustration. Once you're ready to work on it again, it'll be much easier to stomach. When I was stripping and refinishing mine, I took about 6 weeks off to regain some motivation. Another thing that helps is to drive the car! Even if the doors are bare, go out for a drive . It'll remind you why you're doing all the work.
By the way, if your car is a factory automatic transmission, it's not a factory L46 350hp as listed in your sig.
no don't sell it since you have done so much with it and like above said you are almost done with it.You sell it and then you will want another one and you just might end up doing alot of work to that one to get it the way you want it.You have a good looking ride there and soon enough you will be smiling driving it down the road feeling the efforts of your hard work you put into it.
Do you always do what your neighbor tells you to do??? Maybe he wants to buy it for himself. Take a break from it for a while and them decide.
No , No don't sell it... You will regret it down the road. I have been thinking the same thing with all the $$$ going into this thing. 13K in the last 1 1/2 years. Now I will drive it and enjoy... don't try to fix everything at once, make it driveable and keep pluggin..
Why not pay somebody else to finish the parts you're having problems with? Maybe there's a good 'Vette repair place, or someone in the local club who's done it a few times. I know there's the "but I've done all the work until now", but I'd have someone else do it so I could get down to the business of driving and enjoying it.
well.. the car is my daily driver. and i cant bomb around in my moms toyota camry because on monday she goes back to work after being ill for 2 months which just happened to be the same time when my true daily driver (95 s10 blew up) remember I'm 19. i need to finish this car by saturday, I'm probably not going to sell it, i just get this way when things dont go right. My plan of attack for tomorrow is to see my ol' shop teacher (who restored vettes) and see if he can help me out.
btw, the car HAD a 350/300 horse in it, but i replaced it for something a little more faster ;)
Can you afford a beater? A cheap older import as a daily would make it a lot easier on you. Plus you can insure your vette as a pleasure car and probably pay less for both cars than full coverage on the vette. Factor in the gas and insurance savings over a year or two and the beater will pay for itself.
Keep the car!!! You'll regret it later if you don't. I took many breaks of several months at a time when restoring my Mustang. One was 6 months & nearly sold the car then. It's been done now for 8 years & I don't regret any of it. If you get stuck - take a ride to Long Island, I'll give you a hand.
