Should I Install a Switch? (MSD Wiring and Engine Run-On)
MSD intructions are to take the "wire that went to the positive terminal on the coil and wire it to the light red wire from the MSD 6AL."
My positive terminal has TWO wires. Actually 3, but only two that are possibly from the ignition. One of them only has juice when the key is turned all the way up (ie, when starting the car).
The other wire only has juice once the car is started.
I have two problems, #1, which of these wires is the actually ignition wire, or are both of them the ignition wire? and #2, how do I solve the run on? MSD Suggests that I install a resistor either between the ignition and the 6AL or on the alternator. Which should I do? Has anyone else run into the problem?
The small red wire from the MSD unit needs 12 volts when the ignition is on. You can use the one at the coil or route your own for 12 volts ignition on.
Just find out which wire going to the coil is hot when the ignition is on and use that one. You can also find a hot ignition lead off the fuse box if needed. No need to add more switches than needed.
