My power steering feels weak steering doesn't return with ease maybe its just the way these were built but with a new modern pump does it improve ?? Have u guys that replaced one notice any difference ? Current pump still works not noisy or anything
I just added a $20 pressure reducing kit to reduce the pressure from stock 1200 lbs to 850 lbs for my power steering pump. Here is a link to a fellow who took his pump off and installed the kit. You can jack your car up crawl underneath and modify it with the pump still on though. Instead of adding a washer like this fellow does to decrease the pressure , remove a factory washer to bump the pressure up. When you do it you WILL need a magnet to get the relief valve out of the power steering pump.
If you increase the flow from the pump you will make the valve more responsive and the steering will feel lighter. If you increase the maximum pressure from the pump you will cause the hose fittings to leak.
Any one know a good kit to buy and just replace the control valve. I'm gonna take Jim's advise and get that end fitting from an astro van to get more flow
