Unless you have a particular concern, I would leave it alone. There are different diagnostic procedures used for different problems including dismantling & examining for wear pattern on the teeth. Potential problems are: 1. noise signalling a bad bearing, 2. a clunk when accelerating or decelerating signalling wear, 3. end play on the side yokes signalling wear or damage on the C-clips holding the yokes in. Have to measure the last one. Other problem is oil leak signalling worn seal.
It depends on how many miles and how it's been used. I tell all my friends who pretty much baby their C-3 if they have 80-100K miles that they ought to pull the cover and inspect the cheap poopie GM yokes for end ware.
What happened to me at 50,000 miles was I started to hear bad noises coming out of the pumpkin. The yokes had worn away past the snap rings and the metal just ate the whole thing up. There is a $375 core charge and mine was so bad that it went in the dumpster. The cas was clear full of metal & oil mud
I was under the impression that Vettes were a performance car. Well they aren't built to really have to much fun in.
