Ok so noticed this while driving a few days ago when I'm at idle and hit the gas car seems to bog or almost die like to much gas hard to explain but when the rpms get to say 1500 and then I hit the gas it revs fine only when it's at idle around 900 rpms and I hit the gas that's when it kinda chockes was looking in there today took out the air cleaner at idle hit the gas and some fuel mixed with air spits out the carb once the rpms get higher then I can hit the gas and no problem What could this be ? When I shut off the engine I can hear a hiss for about 10 seconds coming from this part is this normal
no, that's not normal.
vacuum is leaking there and must be fixed as that could be the root of your problem.
you don't say what kind of carb you're running so a good
diagnosis is not possible but any vacuum leaks can cause the
condition you describe. If you are running a Holley carb it could be a bad power valve. If you're running a quadrajet it could be a bad accel pump or low fuel in the float bowl. there are of course other possibilities but that should get you started.
remember to post all available information when you are asking for help such as year, engine cu. in., carb make and size etc.
good luck with the fix.
Ok so replace a few hoses and the check valve above still back firing or missing when I hit the gas at idle I was reading a few things could it be the egr valve going bad ? Any tips on how to check it
Unplug the vacuum hose from the manifold port, cap it (the port), and see if the problem's still there.
This is good troubleshooting advice. I recommend you go to the store and buy a pack of assorted vacuum caps. The goal is to rule out entire systems for leaks. Remove all hoses from the manifold port and cap the ports. I would label and remove all vacuum hoses to your carb and cap the ports.
This will let you tshoot the carb only as Lars sent it to you. If the carb only passes the test, add back ONE vacuun line at a time and verify until you find the line that brings back the issue. Then you can chase down the leak in that system.
Ok I bought a vaccum plug kit plugged all lines didn't change a thing when I hit the gas at idle it backfires out of the carb not all the time depends how much I push the gas so frustrating everything was runing so good this just started hapening within the last week
