Default console clock repair

i took the clock out did all the suggested repairs, i.e. cleaning, lubing and points cleanup. runs great on the bench without the hands in it. put hands and face on, ran fine for an hour, so i figure it's fixed. buttoned it all back up and it'll run for 5 seconds and stop. wacking the housing will get it going but not for long. suggestions?

Frustrating, isn't it? Same thing happened to me. Did you use a very light oil? Took mine a couple of goes at cleaning and oiling before it would run continuously. Been going now for about 2 years, but I have to take it out to reattach the small gear on the adjuster. Not a problem, because I have to work on the radio dial and temp guage!

think i'll get a battery quartz at Michaels for $6 and replace all but the face and hands and remote the battery. not into $$$ to fix this.

All my fix cost was a bit of time! Trust me, you're nearly there! Cool avatar pic, BTW.
I also found that if mine stopped, by moving the hands via the adjuster, it would start up again, until it was all good.

Run a separate ground to it. The original clock in my 68 needed a bit more than just the cluster for a ground.

Default OK now

finished cheapo craft store clock conversion and decided to give oem one more shot. I took the winding spring and shortened it. makes for a shorter winding interval but doesn't seem to affect the sweep at all. here's pics of all so somebody else can benefit from this.[IMG][/IMG]
