Default Wiper door fitment question.

Hey guys. I was messing around with the car last night trying to guage how well everything is going to fit back on the body once it is painted next week end. When I bought the car a lot of stuff was already removed including the wiper door and grill vent. So I set them up on the car and lined the bolt holes up where they are supposed to be and noticed that there is about a 1/2 inch gap on either side between the end of the wiper door and grill vent and the edge of the fender. The gap is uniform on both sides and really there is nothing that I can do with it if it is wrong. But I am curious if everybody else's is this wide? Also The little ear that is at the end of the wiper door that you screw the molding into has broken off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix it?

WOW - 1/2 inch on each side??
That is a HUGE gap. Both of mine are so tight that I wondered if they would hit the fenders when I put them on. I think the perfect gap on these would be about 3/16th on each side.

Mine is about 1/8". All of my gaps from the wiper door to the grill to the hood line up perfectly. You got something goin' on there for sure.

When I put my new one piece front end on I had to grind some off on both ends of the front end where the wiper door goes down into it. I have about 1/8" gap now, but I didn't have that until I made it.

I've got 3/16" - 1/2 is too much!

Mine gaps aren't perfect and I actually wish they were slightly larger (the 3/16th I mentioned). But I think they are about normal for these cars. Here's a couple pics. Ya - they need a wash job too.

Whew....... Thanks for the pics guys. I am starting to feel a little better. I have a feeling that I did exagerate the size of the gap because both of your doors seem to be close to what I have. I will check for sure but I think that I may have over reacted. :yesnod:

Any suggestions on fixing the screw hole on the end of the w\door that attaches the molding? The outside tip of mine is broken and you can see the inside of the threads.
