Default 73 for $2200

Hello project car people , I need your opinion fast please. I have been thinking about this second dream for awhile now, a 73 Bad Big 454,4 sp and it going to take me a longtime to fulfill this dream ,because Iwant to build it from bottom up I think. Anyway, I found this basket car and the owner said 100% of the car is there but I doubt it. I would say about 80-85% parts and need to convert to stick, all body glass are there except the plastic nose ,no engine ,auto transmission"no used for me" good CA frame.
I offer $2000 but he refused and said $2200 firm. Is it a good deal?
Thankyou for your future response.

If the car is 100% where is the front bumber? See if you can sift through the boxes first. But if good frame and body with most all other parts, $2,200 doesn't sound bad.

Was this an original big block car? If not, you will also be replacing a lot of the suspension items and radiator, too. Is the interior included? Is it in good shape? Is the body straight and unhit? There's a lot to be said for spending a little more now and having fewer headaches later. If, however, you were intending to buy a car and deconstruct it for a full frame-off anyway, it sounds like this one is well on its way. It doesn't sound like a bad price to me for what it is, but is it really what you want?

IF the frame is not rusted, and UNBENT it's a good deal, especially if the body birdcage is not rusted out around windshield area....look closely...
also ON A LIFT, look at the frame in front, see if it's been repaired a lot...
it's usually fairly obvious to someone familiar with vette frames....
find youlocal vette club ghuru, pay him if necessary for his opinion...

To get an idea of the value you might check out: http://www.corvettemagazine.com/CGI-BIN/CALCULATOR.ASP

Based on their value of $3500 for a 73 that needs everything (no options) and the fact that you were willing to offer $2000 for it, if it were me I'd go the extra $200 and get your hands on it. :yesnod:

Well, getting a good body and frame for $2200 is always a good deal, but turning those things into a beautiful, complete car usually isn't. You'll have to access the condition of all the loose parts to know what you're getting.

That said, it can still be a fun project for the right person. Garage time is therapy! Are you someone who's looking at the rebuild as a semi-expensive hobby rather than an investment? That would be me  Why buy a completed car for cheap when I can build it myself for twice as much money?

Having just completed a complete frame off restoration on a 72 coupe, I'd consider looking around for a car that needs less work/parts. Ours was all there, but it still required more $ than expected for various replacements. My guess is that you'd end up saving money if you bought a $4000-$5000 car that had the engine and other parts you say this one is missing. I don't regret the work on our 72, but I'd rethink the investment if I had it to do over again.

Buy the car but don't restore it. Either resell it at a profit or part it out at a profit. Then put that cash towards a nicer car.
Just be careful when buying a car that needs less work. Many times I've bought cars that just needed a little. Sometimes those cars end up with the full treatment just like a basket case would get.

For $2200 you can't go wrong - especially if the frame and body are good!!!

Go for it. With all the time and money you are going to have to invest in the car anyway, $200 isn't a big deal. Make the deal and get to work!

I appreciated for all your opinions and fast responses and take everyone susgestion into consideration . I had a plan before tackle a project like this. This is something I really want to do, never done it before so I don't know how it is going to end up ,but the reason I go for basket car because what happened to my 69 was, bought it at a decent condition and end up replace many new parts just for upgrading, (I have a bunch of part catalogs)and it would save me thousands of dollars if I found this site earlier .Anyway , I posted the question not because the $200 dollar but because I want to know how C3 people valuable opinions .
OK here is my plan . I have a space ,I don't have to hurry to drive it (got 69)
"money" I still have a job, fixing car is my hobby"only for C3"even though I only know how to learning and fixing my 69 ,I have some patience in me and like to listen to different poeple idea.
This is my last question before I go get it , The frame look very clean from front to back but how can you tell if it is bend and an easy way to check it.
Thank you and please try to read,my englist is limited.

I have to agree, if you are going to replace everything that is worn or damaged anyway, you might as well start with a basket case. Just remember that it will never be worth what you put into it. Check that website for the value of a finished car with non-numbers matching big block to get an idea of what it will bring if you decide to sell it. But it sounds like fun, and you can work as the money is available. Joe

Some of the cheapest stuff I ever bought was the most expensive stuff I ever bought...but if busted knuckles is your hobby, like me, buy it. Then sit and think about what you really want to do. . I paid 2000 for 1981 and rebuilt engine, brakes, etc. Will never get $ out, but that is OK. :seeya
