Default 82 steering column specifics???

ok just stripped and went through my tilt/tele column.this forum was a huge support ,thanks to all ! ...however in my excitement of possibly not needing a whole rebuild I realized the column has no park lock for the automatic shift ...the thing must be from a 81 or earlier with cruise and column mount dimmer with a stick!! f@#$><!!! I dont mind not loking the shifter cause I never plan on leaving it out of my sight when not garaged but I dont even see the cable or linkage on the trans to re connect if I found the right column.Or did chevy leave this one out I doubt it ,.. so much for my unmolested 82 its the small deets you over look some times. any takes on this???

You will note that your 1982 T&T steering column has a small trip lever next to your ignition key in the column head. You have to trip the lever in order to rotate your ignition key from OFF to OFF-LOCK. So you can shut your engine off, but you do not lock your steering wheel until you trip the lever.

GM introduced this less expensive locking system on the Corvette starting in 1977. It eliminated the need for a costly cable from the transmission to the steering column and also the shift tube inside the steering column.

The trip lever system still met the Federal Automobile Antitheft Law that dictates that either the shifter or the steering wheel has to be locked when you remove your ignition key.

Jim you are the" steering column man"!I would not have been able to repair my column with out you articles.(the ones I could open properly, competers arent my game to speak) so your saying there are no missing shift lock stuff on my column? suits me fine! and I want to appologize to everyone who helped with my issues the A.I.M. and a factory manual is on the way .hopefully that will curb some of my pointless questions. I was gonna try to track you down and bribe you to rebuild it for me! LOL thanks again a million!
