Default Valve covers

Pretty sure this is a noob question, so please bear with

The valve covers on my 78 are not matching well with the chrome air cleaner, so I ventured off into ebay to look at chrome covers. There seem to be a lot of covers for chevy 350 engines, but they only have one hole per cover, whereas my stock covers have the two hose-holes and one bigger hole for oil input.

What are those hoses that connect to the valve covers? Can I use 2 single-hole valve covers, rather than the 2+1 setup that is stock? Where would the oil be poured in from?

Thanks guys

1 Valve cover would have a pcv valve hole and one should have a breather cap and just pull it out and pour oil in that hole.

This is what I have now. 3 holes total, beat up looking. The front two holes have hoses coming off of them, and the big one is for oil.

Most of the covers I'm looking at online look like this; they only have two holes on them.

Thanks a lot, guess I'll just pick something pretty out now and not worry about the dearth of holes

The two hole will be the same size as in the pic of the new chrome ones, you will get two different size grommets.

Yea but have you saw how much a set of factory valve cover are verses a set of $50 chrome ones?

Here is what you need, they are around $5 at a parts store or Summit.

And around $13 for the breather.

Do those eBay covers come with the air/oil separators built in like the OEMs? If you have any amt of blowby you will wish you bought valve covers with the built in deflectors.

Yeah, i wouldn't buy ebay covers myself, most of it is made in china junk that has warped rails and as said above, no oil deflectors. Support your local speed shop

Ironmaiden, I see you're not far from me.....if you like the factory style aluminum covers either Big City Corvettes in Livermore or Corvette Dave in Tracy may have a good used set

Just read the description of the covers and make sure they have built in oil deflectors.
If you ever wanted to run big aluminum roller rockers they won't fit under the stock valve covers.
I have a set of the factory aluminum finned on my car but wouldn't hesitate to change them to something useful.

I had the same problem. Got chrome valve covers but only had one hole in each. So went back and got the correct number of holes so I know they are available. This was 2 years ago so don't remember exactly but they might have been Trans Dapt brand.

I like aluminum covers mostly for the reduction of valve train noise.
